Giulia Pompilio was born in 2001 in Milan, Italy. She studied at the University of Pavia where she completed her Master’s degree in September 2025, under the supervision of Professor Stefano Protti. Here she worked on a visible-light-driven spirocyclization reaction using arylazo sulfones. As part of her Master’s degree internship, she spent five months at the University of Göttingen, under the supervision of Professor Nadja Simeth, where she investigated the synthesis of photocaged pseudo-glucosinolates for the light-induced release of isothiocyanates.

In January and February 2026 she carried out a short internship at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, under the supervision of Professors Laurence Grimaud and Maxime Vitale, where she explored the valorization of Passerini-Smiles adducts through photoredox-catalyzed processes.

In April 2026 she joined the group of professor Dmitry Katayev to pursue her PhD, focusing on the development of novel electrochemical and photochemical methodologies to address key challenges in sustainable organic synthesis.
