Dr. Ismat Nawaz is originally from Pakistan and completed her PhD at LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences) under the supervision of Prof. Ghayoor Abbas, where she focussed on developing new organic synthetic mythologies, including organoselenium chemistry and SuFEx Chemistry. She later joined the research group of Prof. Michael j.Ingleson through IRSIP-HEC Pakistan fellowship to work on Electrophilic borylation. As a DAAD fellow, Ismat got a chance to work with Prof. Frank Glorius, where she synthesized cholesterol based imidazolium salts as lipid analogs for exploring their applications in cellular membrane processes.  Currently, Ismat is a Swiss postdoctoral excellence fellow in the group of prof. Dmitry Katayev, where she is investigating photocatalytic energy transfer reactions to functionalize organic molecules, particularly focusing on CF3 and NO2 functional groups. Outside the lab, Ismat enjoys traveling and discovering new cultures.
